Recipe from Betty Sacco (via Chris Coughlin)
Preheat oven to 350
2/3 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 beaten egg
1/4 cup light molasses
2 cups flour
1 tsp salt
1 tbp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ginger
1 tsp cloves
Cream shortening and sugar
Add egg and molasses and beat well
Add sifted dry ingredients
Mix thoroughly
Roll 1/8" thick on lightly floured surface
Cut with floured cookie cutter
Bake on greased cookie sheet at 350 degrees for 10 minutes
Makes 6 dozen small about 2 dozen large gingermen
Decorate with powdered sugar frosting as desired.
